UIC Police offers the following security tips:
Be aware of your surroundings. Use all your senses to be alert for danger, and when walking alone, don’t wear headphones or earbuds. Don’t display valuables in public. On campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 1,500 across campus.) To contact the UIC Police, call 312-355-5555 for emergencies or 312-996-2830 for non-emergencies. Report crime promptly to police.
On Sunday, October 16, at approximately 0231 a.m. UIC Police responded to a report of an attempted robbery at 1257 S. Halsted St. CPD and UICPD arrived on scene and spoke with the Victim, a Ride Share Service Driver – Not UIC affiliated. The victim stated that while dropping off two passengers at 1257 S. Halsted, one passenger told the victim that this was a robbery and informed him not to run or he will be shot. Weapon was implied but not seen. The victim took his car keys out of the ignition and ran away. The offenders then attempted to pursue the victim but gave up and left east bound on Rochford then in an unknown direction. There were no injuries reported in this incident and no proceeds were taken.
Offenders were described as two males, 19 to 20 years of age, wearing dark hoodies and face masks.
The Chicago Police Department will lead the investigation. Anyone with information should call 311
