UIC’s Emergency Notification System

UIC’s Emergency Notification System (ENS) is referred to as UIC ALERT. If there is an emergency, a weather-related cancellation, or a threat to the campus community, a UIC ALERT will be sent describing the nature of the situation. In a campus emergency, the university will use a variety of communications methods to reach you. UIC ALERT will deliver messages to some or all of the following channels: text message, email, UIC.edu, emergency.uic.edu, Twitter (@UICNews), Facebook (@UIC.edu), and digital signage on campus.

This website serves as a resource for UIC communications in the event of an emergency. It will be updated regularly as new information becomes available.

About UIC Alert

UIC Alert is a service that allows authorized UIC officials to send email and/or text messages to mobile phones or any text message capable device in the case of a campus emergency.

Students, faculty and staff may add up to three additional phone numbers to allow family or friends to receive UIC Alert text messages.

Subscribe to UIC alert

Subscribe your cell phone to receive text message alerts. An immediate SMS text alert will be sent in case of a serious crime in progress, a weather emergency, or other urgent situation.

Get Help in an Emergency

To summon Police or Fire for any on-campus emergency, call 5-5555 “Five Fives for Help.” Phone stickers are available from the UIC Police.

Set up the complete number, 312-355-5555, on speed-dial on your cell phone.

More than 1,500 emergency call boxes and blue light poles are on campus. A red button activates an alarm and immediately connects you to UIC Police. Spot the call box and blue light pole locations as you make your way around campus.

Update Your Emergency Information
