UIC Chicago campus operating normally Jan. 23

[UIC ALERT]: The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning beginning Thursday night and continuing through the weekend. The coldest temperatures are expected early Friday morning, when wind chills could drop to between 20 and 40 degrees below zero in the Chicago area.

The UIC campus in Chicago, including UIC Law, will continue normal operations Friday, Jan. 23. Please allow extra time to travel safely, and dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

Activities at UIC regional campuses in Peoria, Rockford, Springfield and Urbana will depend on local weather conditions. The colleges in those locations will communicate operational updates.

Clinical operations and essential services at the Chicago campus

  • Clinical operations, including educational activities in the health sciences colleges, will continue as scheduled. The health sciences colleges will communicate directly with students.
  • The hospital, clinics, dental clinics and pharmacies will continue normal operations.
  • Mile Square Health Center locations will continue normal operations.
  • University-defined essential units that provide critical operations and services at the university, regardless of weather conditions, will continue normal operations.

Remote work

  • Employees who do not work in essential function areas should follow their normal in-person or hybrid work schedule. Please direct questions to your supervisor.
  • Employees who choose not to work due to the weather must use appropriate benefit time.

Events, transportation and facilities

  • UIC Libraries in Chicago (Daley, Health Sciences and Law) will continue normal operations. The regional health sciences libraries in Rockford and Peoria will follow the directives of those college deans.
  • Scheduled events on campus may be affected. Please check with organizers and venues for specific details.
  • Campus residential housing will continue normal operations, including food service.
  • Student Center East and Student Center West will continue normal operations.
  • The Children’s Center will be open.
  • Recreation and Wellbeing facilities will continue normal operations.
  • Technology Solutions will continue to provide support through help.uic.edu.
  • Facility emergencies and building access requests should be reported to Facilities Customer Support, 24 hours a day, at 312-996-7511.
  • UIC buses, shuttles, paratransit service and Night Ride will operate on a regular schedule. However, delays may occur due to weather. Consult UIC Ride on your mobile device for specific information on routes and times.
  • UIC Parking offers motorist assistance by calling 312-355-0555.
  • Please use the 24/7 phone number, 5-SNOW (312-355-7669), to report any ice or snow-related problems on campus.

Updates will be provided to the campus as needed via UIC ALERT email, SMS/text messaging to subscribed mobile phones, the UIC.edu website, the UIC SAFE app and social media.
