[UIC ALERT] UIC in Chicago will close non-essential operations Dec. 22

Due to winter weather conditions, the UIC campus in Chicago, including UIC Law, will close non-essential operations beginning at 7 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 22. Employees working in essential areas such as patient care and those who support campus infrastructure, including but not limited to campus police, facilities management, custodial and grounds, are expected to report to work during inclement weather unless directed otherwise by their supervisor.

The University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics will continue normal operations. Staff will not be penalized for late arrivals, but as essential workers, UI Health staff are expected to report to work as scheduled and follow departmental procedures for call-off and benefit requests. UI Health faculty and staff may visit the employee intranet homepage for further instruction and updates.

Mile Square Health Center locations will continue normal operations; staff and patients will be notified directly should circumstances change. UIC Dental Clinics will curtail patient care beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Students on clinical rotations (including field placements and/or community work) with ongoing patient care (client) activities are expected to attend their activities if possible. Students who are unable to report to their hospital or clinical site (field placement) must notify the clinical team as soon as they may safely do so. There will be no penalty for students who are unable to report to their clinical placements/rotations due to severe weather considerations.

Staff coming to campus may wish to park in parking structures to allow for snow removal on surface parking lots. Reciprocal parking will be provided at no charge.

Access to buildings, including laboratories, will be available with swipe card access. Campus residential housing will continue winter break protocols.

For non-essential units, supervisors are encouraged to allow employees to work remotely depending on operational needs.  If unable to work, employees are required to utilize benefit time.

Activities at UIC regional campuses in Peoria, Quad Cities, Rockford, Springfield and Urbana will be determined based on local weather conditions and any operational updates will be communicated by the colleges in those locations.

Updates will be provided to the campus as needed via UIC ALERT e-mail, SMS text messaging to subscribed mobile phones, the UIC.edu website and social media.

Please use the 24/7 phone number, 5-SNOW (312-355-7669) to report any snow or ice-related problems on campus.
